Watchdog finds passport details excessive in social net registration

MOSCOW, Mar 26 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has found excessive to ask for passport details and residence address when getting registered with social networks and messengers, an authority official told PRIME late on Thursday.

The bulk of amendments to the law on personal date came into force in March, obliging data operators to receive consent of users to process public information about them. It can be done now directly to the operator and it will be possible to use the authority’s information system from July 1.

The watchdog earlier released a draft ruling with the rules of work with its system, including the necessity for the user to submit a whole range of personal information, including passport details, residence address, phone number, and e-mail.

The watchdog official said the list was found excessive, and the authority revised the draft.
